Event: Constellations by Nick Payne at the Duke of York’s Theatre
Location: Duke of York's Theatre, WC2
Nick Payne’s short play Constellations had great reviews when it played at the Royal Court Theatre early in 2012. Now it’s back with the same cast, starring Sally Hawkins and Rafe Spall, at the Duke of York’s Theatre, as part of the Royal Court’s West End transfer season.
It is a play about relationships, free will and parallel universes, a romantic story about the possibilities of a number of different outcomes in every situation.
Sally Hawkins plays a scientist working in the field of quantum cosmology, who meets a happy-go-lucky beekeeper, played by Rafe Spall, at a barbecue. The two then meet in a succession of scenes in which Hawkins envisages numerous outcomes based on a variety of factors in each scenario.
Sally Hawkins is known for film roles in Jane Eyre, Made in Dagenham and has a best actress Golden Globe for her role in Mike Leigh’s Happy-Go-Lucky. And Rafe Spall (the son of actor Timothy) has recently been in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus and the film One Day.
