Event: ENO: Powder Her Face
Location: Ambika P3, NW1
Based on the real-life 1960s sex scandal and divorce of the Duchess of Argyll, Powder Her Face is a modern chamber opera by Thomas Adés, with British soprano Amanda Roocroft in the lead role.
The new production, being performed in a large modern gallery space in Marylebone, is part of the English National Opera 2013/14 programme.
The score includes tango and cabaret influences and is known for its provocative sex scenes. The production by theatre director and opera newcomer Joe Hill-Gibbins is part of an ENO programme inviting guest directors that has included the late Anthony Minghella’s Madame Butterfly and Terry Gilliam’s production of the Berlioz opera Benvenuto Cellini (5-27 Jun).
The English National Opera production, Powder Her Face, is on at the art gallery Ambika P3 in Marylebone from 2 to 19 April.
