American football touches down in the capital
Whether you’re an American football fan or new to the game, the 2018 NFL London Games offers a rare opportunity to see some of the sport’s top players outside the USA.
Each year since 2007, America’s favourite sport has brought regular season games to London as part of the NFL International Series. This autumn, three fixtures will be played here – all just as crucial as the games on home turf in deciding who will make the playoffs and, ultimately, the Super Bowl showdown.
Wembley Stadium – the seat of English football – will be hosting all the games as it becomes the temporary home of American football for the visiting teams. First up the Seattle Seahawks take on the Oakland Raiders, followed by a clash between the Tennessee Tigers and the Los Angeles Chargers. Finally, last year’s Super Bowl LII champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, will meet the Jacksonville Jaguars.
There is talk that the growing popularity of the game in Britain could lead to the possibility of a permanent NFL team based over here. A reported 13 million UK fans regularly tune into televised US games, but this event provides an exclusive chance to get ahead of the pack and see the real thing, live.
