Glyndebourne Festival
Glyndebourne has become the hallmark for summer opera season

Hitting the high notes
Glyndebourne Festival returns with world-class performances set against the backdrop of Glyndebourne House and the South Downs countryside.
One act to look out for is, La bohème ‘To be alone in winter is a terrible thing'.
In La bohème Puccini created an opera in which ordinary people are elevated to the level of the extraordinary, the tragic, the timeless – transformed by a score that has seduced generations of audiences. Perfomances also include, The Wreckers, Le nozze di Figaro and Don Pasquale.
As well as the performances, the joys of Glyndebourne are the setting – and the style. The festival founder, John Christie, started the tradition of a formal dress code for the festival, with audiences customarily dressing in evening wear to show their respect for the performers. Arrive during the day to explore the house and gardens, perhaps with a gourmet picnic hamper in hand.
With much time at Glyndebourne spent outside (including after dark, when the gardens are illuminated), remember to bring warm layers for cooler weather.
