Event: V&A’s David Bowie retrospective
Location: Victoria & Albert Museum, SW7
The Victoria & Albert Museum is showing items from David Bowie’s archive in the first ever retrospective of the singer’s career. The David Bowie Is exhibition features handwritten lyrics, costumes, set designs, instruments, photographs and other memorabilia from Bowie’s 50 years in the music business.
The show will include items never exhibited before, such as storyboards, handwritten set lists and lyrics, and some of the singer’s diary entries, musical scores and sketches. There will also be 60 costumes, including his Ziggy Stardust Starman bodysuit that he wore on Top of the Pops in 1972, album sleeve artwork, clips from live performances and music videos and photographs by Herb Ritts, Helmut Land and Brian Duffy.
The exhibit is expected to be extremely busy, with the museum announcing that they have had record pre-opening ticket sales, so advance booking is recommended.
David Bowie Is is on at the Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington from 23 Mar to 11 Aug 2013. Opening hours are 10am-5.45pm daily, Fridays open until 10pm.
