Event: Art Deco: Silver in the ‘Style Moderne’
Location: London Silver Vaults, WC2
We may be a little biased here at Claridge’s when it comes to art deco style – after all our hotel is London’s art deco jewel – but we like to think that the era of ‘style moderne’, as it was known, produced some of the most elegant, streamlined and beautiful designs of the last century.
The current selling exhibition at the London Silver Vaults, Art Deco: Silver in the ‘Style Moderne’, shows a selection of silverware from this period in the 1920s and ’30s, mainly English sterling silver, but with a smaller selection from Europe and the USA.
The London Silver Vaults on Chancery Lane in London’s legal district is said to be home to the world’s largest collection of antique silver for sale, dating from the 17th century to the present day.
This year the Vaults is celebrating 60 years in business (1953-2013) – although it is housed in the former Chancery Lane Safe Deposit, which was used to house silver, jewellery and documents since 1876.
Art Deco: Silver in the ‘Style Moderne’ at the London Silver Vaults is open Mon to Fri 9am-5.30pm and Sat 9am-1pm until 29 Jun 2013.
