Afternoon Tea
It is said that Anna Russell, 7th Duchess of Bedford, invented Afternoon Tea in 1840. This was to satisfy her peckishness during the long wait between lunch and dinner. Join us in continuing this ritual – with a twist of Claridge’s creativity – with our legendary traditional Afternoon Tea in The Foyer & Reading Room.
Prepared and served fresh each day, our menu faithfully follows the traditional combination of sweet and savoury. The ingredients include British specialities such as smoked Scottish salmon – and our pastries change to reflect the fruits of the season. Of course, at the heart of the experience is the drink itself. From a rich Oolong to the refreshingly complex Claridge’s Blend, you will find teas that complement your food perfectly.

Traditional Afternoon Tea is priced from £95 per person, Champagne Afternoon Tea is priced from £110 per person, and Rosé Champagne Afternoon Tea is priced from £125 per person. Seasonal Afternoon Tea is priced from £120 per person on weekdays and £125 per person at the weekend.

From 4 November 2025 until 4 January 2026, we will be serving our Festive Afternoon Tea only, which includes a glass of Billecart Salmon Le Réserve (or Wild Idol) and a Claridge's Christmas Pudding. Southend Children’s Choir will be in attendance on weekends up until Christmas Eve.
